About Us
Issaqueena Permaculture at Wrens' Playground - Wrens' Playground is a suburban-scale homestead-in-the-making within the City of Clemson. I specialize in mushroom production, together with a slowly growing selection of additional products: herbs, vegetables, fruits, berries, and perhaps more in time, including some plant starts and value-added products. I am PDC certified, but still feeling my way into this exciting and challenging adventure. I'm always learning about new aspects of this lifestyle and love to exchange ideas, perspectives, and tips, so say hi if you'd ever like to chat about organic gardening, self-reliance, natural materials building, and the challenges of being an owner-builder!
A note on pricing: I set my prices (not including CAFE's markup) to match what I would pay for comparable organic produce in my local grocery stores. For items one doesn't normally find in a grocery, or I can't find locally in organic quality, I take my best guess.

Practices
Issaqueena Permaculture adheres to permaculture principles, which means "beyond-organic" practices: all the benefits of "organic" and more, without the certification. Permaculture is a design science for crafting sustainable systems for human benefit by observing and mirroring the function of natural ecosystems. Many think of it primarily as a set of principles and practices for designing horticultural systems... like organic gardening taken to the Nth degree. It is that. It is also a philosophy that can be applied to many areas. It is an umbrella term covering regenerative agriculture at all scales (building stronger soil with your agriculture, rather than mining its fertility!), sustainable living skills, natural building, and appropriate technologies.
Produce is grown without use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. In keeping with natural lessons, emphasis is placed on perennial species and mixed polycultures, yielding a more resilient horticulture and more nutritious crops. Similarly, many traditional aspects of industrial agriculture that run counter to natural rules - excessive disturbance of the soil, monoculture plantings, bare earth cultivation - are avoided.
